چکیده

Destination-based forwarding in traditional IP routers has not been able to take full advantage of multiple paths that frequently exist in Internet Service Provider Networks. As a result, the networks may not operate efficiently, especially when the traffic patterns are dynamic. This paper describes a multipath adaptive traffic engineering scheme, called MATE, which is targeted for switched networks such as MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks. The main goal of MATE is to avoid network congestion by adaptively balancing the load among multiple paths based on measurement and analysis of path congestion. MATE adopts a minimalist approach in that intermediate nodes are not required to perform traffic engineering or measurements besides forwarding packets. Moreover, MATE does not impose any particular scheduling, buffer management, or a priori traffic characterization on the nodes. This paper presents an analytical model, derives a class of MATE algorithms, and proves their convergence. Several practical design techniques to implement MATE are described. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the efficacy of MATE under various network scenarios.

Protection Over Asymmetric Channels, S-MATE: Secure Multipath Adaptive Traffic Engineering

There have been several approaches to the problem of provisioning traffic engineering between core network nodes in Internet Service Provider (ISP) networks. Such approaches aim to minimize network delay, increase capacity, and enhance security services between two core (relay) network nodes, an ingress node and an egress node. MATE (Multipath Adaptive Traffic Engineering) has been proposed for...

OpIATE: Optimization Integrated Adaptive Traffic Engineering

The advent of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), a connection oriented technology, allows packets in datagram networks to be sent along explicit (not necessarily shortest) paths. This provides scope for the development and more importantly, implementation of traffic engineering schemes that can implicitly or explicitly optimize a network wide performance criterion. We propose a decentralized...

Traffic Engineering System Based on Adaptive Multipath Routing

Traffic engineering is a method of optimizing the performance of a telecommunication network by dynamically analysing, predicting and regulating the link utilization over the network. It handles the unexpected traffic dynamics for achieving better quality of service and overall network performance in wireless sensor networks. One of the existing AMPLE (Adaptive Multi-topology traffic Engineerin...

Adaptive multipath routing for dynamic traffic engineering

This paper proposes Adaptive Multi-Path routing (AMP) as a simple algorithm for dynamic traffic engineering within autonomous systems. In contrast to related multipath routing proposals, AMP does not employ a global perspective of the network in each node. It restricts available information to a local scope, which opens the potential of reducing signaling overhead and memory consumption in rout...
